Have you ever had that feeling of unlimited joy, of a happiness you can’t express completely but at the same time it’s bouncing around inside you like an ion which can’t be contained? Yea, that’s how I felt when I finished reading this book, it’s almost like I’m overflowing with love!
Red, White & Royal Blue is a romantic novel evolving around FSOTUS Alexander Gabriel Claremont-Diaz and the Prince of Wales, Henry George, Edward, James, Fox-Mountchristen-Windsor. They are shown to initially dislike each other, which leads from one thing to another – mostly falling over each other (pun intended) – until both are forced to spend time together to keep political relations between the USA and England stable.
This book will give you literally ALL the feels; you’ll find yourself smiling, you’ll laugh out loud, you’ll sometimes feel a tear rolling down the corner of your eye, you’ll feel helpless, you’ll feel angry, you’ll feel loss, you’ll feel victory, you’ll feel lost but soon you’ll feel found… EVERYTHING! You’ll feel everything. I think I’ve said it so many times now that it seems unfair to not say it in my review, but this story is going to make you feel complete and even accepted.
Here’s a list of my reasons for why you should pick this book up:
1. Gives new insight through representation of LGBTQ and biracial relationships.
2. There’s a prince who indeed is very charming. Enough said.
3. Want a little Gossip Girls feel? Go for it.
4. This is what I absolutely loved, as I like to call it – The Modern Way of Lettering – emails. I loved the emails exchanged between the two love-crazed men!
5. There are little snippets of tweets, texts exchanged between the two and newspaper headlines throughout the book which makes the reading experience more fun.
6. It filled my heart with love – the sweetest, bravest kind of love.
7. And lastly, it’ll definitely give you proper election drama feels with A LOT of hope to vote for the right candidate for a better country.
Choose any one reason which suits you and read it already!
It’s a great book but it’s not a perfect one. Here’s what didn’t work for me personally – though I wouldn’t say it hampered with the reading experience much:
1. It’s pretty obvious that the plot has been set through rose-tinted glasses with a lot of private flights and lit parties which was a little bit too much at times.
2. I feel like Alex stole the show and that Henry deserved more spotlight as well – yes, if it’s not obvious till yet, I’m team Prince!
Apart from these 2 points, it’s a great book. It’s a light, fun read with just a perfect pinch of drama and a whole lot of love. I rate this book 4 out of 5 princely crown shaped bookmarks.
